The Kangaroos have once again become the world champions. They defeated the unbeaten Indian team in the final at Ahmedabad to lift their 6th World Cup. The Aussies once again showed that they are simply the best when it comes to knockouts. It was a one-sided affair which ultimately resulted in an Australian victory.
Let’s revisit the top 3 talking points from the ODI World Cup 2023 final between India and Australia:
1. Captain Cummins

The Australian captain Pat Cummins had arguably the best day of his captaincy tenure. He did everything perfectly. Everything was spot on right from winning the toss to lifting the cup. His captaincy ensured that Australia restricted India to a low total of 240 in the final. The Indian batting unit was in fine form in this World Cup but the Australian captain had his plans ready to stop the Indian batting juggernaut.
2. Rohit Sharma – Too Adventurous

The Indian team had done wonders with the bat in this tournament but they stumbled at the final step. The batting display from the Men in Blue was extremely dismal. There was a lot of discussion about the pitch being slow but it was not a ‘240’ pitch. The disaster in batting started with the dismissal of Rohit Sharma. The Indian captain played a needlessly risky shot which conceded the momentum to the Australians. Rohit Sharma has led the Indian team with a fearless attitude but he could not balance the fearlessness with the immaculate game sense.
3. Conservative Approach from the Indians

Throughout the tournament, the Indian team batted fearlessly and that approach was inculcated by Rohit Sharma and the management. The captain walked the talk but, on D-Day, nothing came to fruition. After Rohit Sharma’s dismissal, the Indian batting order went into a shell. As long as Virat Kohli was there on the crease it was all hunky dory for India but with Virat’s unlucky dismissal, everything went haywire. KL Rahul could never accelerate and played an extremely conservative innings. The batting unit could have batted a bit more freely which could have taken them close to a total of 300.
