Shakib Al Hasan expressed confidence in Bangladesh’s World Cup squad, set to take place in India from October to November 19. On Friday, September 15, the Tigers secured a six-run victory over India in their final Super Four match of the Asia Cup 2023, held at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

Despite the match being a dead rubber, this win ensured that Bangladesh avoided the embarrassment of finishing at the bottom of the points table. The trio of Shakib, Mahedi Hasan, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz played a pivotal role by collectively taking four wickets, with spinners leading the charge. The Bangladeshi spinner held one end from and also took wickets making the scoring rate even more stiff for the India batters.

The all-rounder player apart from brilliant captaincy in the last match against India, the 36-year-old player scored 173 runs and also took 3 wickets which also includes his match-winning performance against India

In the last league game, Shakib played brilliantly with bat and scored a match-winning knock of 80 runs and also ended with a bowling figure of 1/43 from his quota of 10 overs.

Another silver lighting for the Bangladesh team in their Asia Cup 2023 campaign was Towhid Hridoy. Towhid in his short ODI career of 14 matches has shown that he is a player, which the Bangladesh team can bank upon. The prolific right-hand batter did not have the ideal of the start of the Asia Cup. But in the last two games against Sri Lanka and India, the 23-year-old batter registered scores of 82 and 54 respectively.
