One of the greatest foreign talents to have played in the Indian Premier League is English wicketkeeper-batter Jonny Bairstow. The Englishman has played for two franchises in his IPL career, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings.
The right-handed batter formed a great alliance with the destructive Australian batter David Warner while representing SRH. He has had some stellar performances for both his teams. Here’s a look at his best performances.
Here are Jonny Bairstow’s Top 3 performances in the IPL
3. 97 vs Kings XI Punjab, 2020
In a display of a strong opening partnership, David Warner and Jonny Bairstow put Sunrisers Hyderabad in a strong position in the first innings. The duo put on a stand of 160 runs in 15 overs, with the Englishman going all guns blazing. Warner had scored 52 runs in the innings, while Bairstow contributed 97 runs in 55 balls.
The two lost wickets in quick succession in the 16th over, but SRH managed to get a score of 201 runs. In the chase, however, PBKS could only muster 132 before getting all out, with Nichols Pooran being their highest run-scorer with 77 runs. SRH won the match by 69 runs and Bairstow was the player of the match.
2. 108 vs Kolkata Knight Riders, 2024
Kolkata Knight Riders had set a mammoth target of 262 for Punjab Kings to chase down, thanks to Phil Salt and Sunil Narine’s opening stand of 138 runs. Cameos by Venkatesh Iyer, Andre Russell, and Shreyas Iyer added to PBKS’s woes.
However, Jonny Bairstow was in no mood to let the match slip away. Along with young Prabsimran Singh, he got off to a great start, scoring 93 runs in the powerplay. Despite losing a couple of wickets in the middle overs, Bairstow continued his onslaught. He was joined by Shashank Singh as the two took the team over the line with ease in just under 19 overs.
1. 114 vs Royal Challengers Bangalore, 2019
Jonny Bairstow and David Warner’s partnership of 185 runs in this match will go down as one of the greatest in the tournament’s history. The two played an innings of a lifetime. Playing some exquisite shots, Bairstow was the leader of the hammering on RCB bowlers as he had scored 114 runs in their partnership and it took him just 56 balls to get there.
After his wicket in the 17th over, Warner also went on to complete his century and take SRH to a total of 231 runs. The bowlers did the rest of the job for them as they restricted RCB to just 113 runs, handing their team a 118-run win.
