Top 3 All-rounders of WTC 2021-23 cycle

The World Test Championship 2021-23 cycle is nearing its conclusion with the coveted final scheduled to be played from June 7 to June 11, with June 12 being a reserve in case of interruptions. India and Australia will battle it out at the Oval, London to determine the new owners of the Test Mace. The cycle has seen some great all round performances. Here’s a listicle highlighting the top three allrounders of the cycle.

3. Axar Patel – 23 wickets, 458 runs

Axar Patel

Axar Patel scored 264 runs in Test cricket in 2023, averaging 88 and striking at 55.70 in just four games. He earned a name for himself with the bat in Test matches this year, and his selection for the starting XI of the Test matches in the WTC 2021-23 cycle has been very important for the men in blue.

He has contributed handily with the bat whenever called upon. Axar continues to be a proper batting allrounder for India. But, his 23 wickets in the cycle is proof that he can also contribute with the ball from time to time. Especially in this cycle, Axar has been effective as a backup bowling option who has broken some crucial partnerships.

2. Ben Stokes – 30 wickets, 971 runs

Ben Stokes

Ben Stokes, the captain of England, led the “Bazball” campaign admirably by smashing the most batters-record 28 sixes in a cycle. In the process, he accumulated 971 runs. Stokes continues to be a strong batting allrounder who picked up 30 handy wickets in the cycle for England. Not to forget, he did a credible job as the team’s captain.

They played differently while being led by Ben Stokes, completely dominating New Zealand at home by a score of 3-0. Then, in August-September 2022, they defeated South Africa 2-1 at home. In December 2022, they defeated Pakistan 3-0 in Pakistan.

1. Ravindra Jadeja – 43 wickets, 673 runs

Ravindra Jadeja

With strong performances with bat and ball against every opposition he played, India’s Ravindra Jadeja further cemented his place as the top Test all-arounder in the world. The 34-year-old recorded both his highest Test score—175 not out against Sri Lanka—and his best bowling statistics—7-42 against Australia—during this cycle.

After missing a significant amount of cricket in the second part of 2022 due to a right knee injury, Jadeja made a significant contribution to India’s Border-Gavaskar Trophy victory over Australia by capturing 22 wickets and making a significant 70 in the first Test in Nagpur.  He was the only player in the cycle to record a century and take five wickets.  In March 2022 at Mohali, he played against Sri Lanka and struck an undefeated 175 while taking 5 for 41.
