Zimbabwe made a brilliant comeback in the 2nd and 3rd matches in the 3-match ODI series against New Zealand in 2000. Even though they lost the 1st match, they won the last two matches to win the series. With a star-studded New Zealand squad, nobody expected Zimbabwe to steal the deal, but they did.
In the last ODI match, New Zealand came to bat first and scored 264 runs at the loss of eight wickets in 50 overs. Craig McMillan and Roger Twose were the best players of the team as they scored 78 and 63 runs, respectively. McMillan hit four boundaries and one six in the innings while Twose hit three boundaries and four sixes in the match. Even Adam Parore scored 30 runs off 43 balls including one boundary.
For Zimbabwe, Heath Streak, Bryan Strang, and Mluleki Nkala took two wickets each while Paul Strang and Alistair Campbell took one wicket each. The bowling effort was magnificent as the team was in no mood to give the batters a chance to score more runs. Although 264 was a huge score at that time, the bowlers did a good job in restricting the team below the 300-run mark.
When Zimbabwe went in to bat, Alistair Campbell scored an unbeaten 99 runs in 124 balls and Dougie Marillier scored 46 runs off 57 balls. Campbell hit eight boundaries while Marillier hit six boundaries and one six in the innings. Stuart Carlisle scored 30 runs off 51 balls including two boundaries and Andy Flower scored 46 runs off 42 balls. Together all the batters did their best to win the game and the series as well. Campbell was given the Player of the Match award because of his brilliant batting.
