OTD | CSK lift their 5th IPL trophy after beating GT on May 29, 2023

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 finals was nothing less than drama. The four-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated the mighty Gujarat Titans (GT) who were the defending champions back then. GT dominated the entire IPL season but couldn’t defend their trophy in the finals. Moreover, the drama started when the rain came in as an intruder. The game went on to the reserve day which did receive rain but couldn’t stop the match.

CSK decided to bowl first which allowed GT to put up a great score on the board. In 20 overs, the team scored 214 runs with the help of Sai Sudarshan’s 96 runs off 47 balls and Wriddhiman Saha’s 54 runs off 39 balls. CSK’s bowling attack couldn’t do much and only Matheesha Pathirana was the one who got two wickets but leaked 44 runs in four overs.

When CSK came in to bat, it started to rain and the match stopped. Later, the overs were reduced to 15 and the target came down to 171. It was a dream final for CSK as their openers gave a great start with Devon Conway scoring 47 runs off 25 balls. Moreover, CSK almost lost the title as 10 runs were required in the last two balls. But their saviour Ravindra Jadeja pulled off a great finish and scored one six and one boundary and hence won the game for the team by five wickets.
