OTD: Australia's ODI World Cup winner Travis Head was born in 1993

Australian middle-order batter Travis Head is celebrating his 30th birthday today. He has been one of the most vital players for Australia in recent times, consistently performing well in all formats of the game. Head played a decisive role in securing two major titles for Australia in 2023: the World Test Championship and the ODI World Cup.

Head made his international debut in a T20 match against India in 2016. In the same year, he also had the opportunity to play his first One-Day International match. The left-hander marked his entry into ODI cricket against West Indies at Basseterre. His consistent run-scoring in domestic cricket earned him a spot in the Test squad for the series against Pakistan in 2018.

A Dependable Figure in the middle-order

Travis Head did not experience much success in the initial phase of his international career. However, in the last few years, he has evolved into a much better player and was the star of the show in the finals of the World Test Championship and ODI World Cup. The South Australian has represented the Kangaroos in 43 test matches, where the left-hander has scored 2958 runs at an average of 44.81. In his test career, Head has hit 6 centuries along with 16 half-centuries, an impressive number of fifty-plus scores in a relatively brief test career.

In white-ball cricket, the 30-year-old has been equally significant, evident from the performances on big stages. He has played 64 One-Day Internationals, scoring 2393 runs at an average of 42.73. Additionally, Head has donned the Australian jersey 23 times in his T20I career, amassing 554 runs.

Travis Head is a revelation for the Australian team in international cricket, as the left-hander has been integral to the team’s plans in all formats of the game. The most promising aspect of his international career has been his ability to step up in knockout games, making him a special player.
