IPL 2023: 3 Players Gujarat Titans must release next season

Gujarat Titans, within two seasons has become a force to reckon with as they have qualified for the playoffs in both the seasons by finishing the league stage in the first position. Under the guidance of a young and cool leader, Hardik Pandya and a potent team built under the coaching team of Ashish Nehra and Gary Kirsten, Gujarat Titans have one of the most balanced sides in IPL history.

But just like every other franchise, they would look to bolster their side more with the help of a few new players in next year’s auction. In order to buy new players, they’ll have to release some players in order to generate some funds. So let’s take a look at the top three players Gujarat Titans must release next season.

1. Shivam Mavi

Shivam Mavi

Shivam Mavi was turning out to be a great name to be associated with the Gujarat Titans franchise but the young Indian pacer hasn’t been able to even make his debut for the defending champions. He was bought at a hefty price of INR 6 crores in the mini auction of the Indian Premier League 2023 and he didn’t even feature in one game for the franchise which has been astonishing.

His time with the Gujarat Titans franchise might be over sooner rather than later, since there are many great options already for the franchise with the likes of Yash Dayal, Mohit Sharma, Joshua Little, Alzaari Joseph, Pradeep Sangwan who are doing a great job in the pace department. He might be purchased again by the Gujarat Titans franchise but at a lower fee in the next auction or they can opt to look at other alternatives.

2. Jayant Yadav

Jayant Yadav has great experience in the Indian Premier League and has won multiple championships with the Mumbai Indians earlier in his career. His acquisition by the Gujarat Titans was proved to be a tactical one since this season of the Indian Premier League was set to follow the home and away format and he would have been needed on tricky and spin friendly pitches in Chennai, Lucknow, Jaipur and Delhi.

But that wasn’t the case, the Gujarat Titans franchise chose the young Afghanistan spinner Noor Ahmed to partner with Rashid Khan in almost all their matches. He did get a start this season but was unable to take a wicket even though his economy was decent. Gujarat Titans can release him and add up to INR 1.7 crores and maybe go for a better option to keep as reserves for their away matches.

3. Matthew Wade

Matthew Wade was a key part of the Gujarat Titans franchise last season as he was providing valuable contributions for his side at different moments of the game. He was seen batting at various positions as and when the team required and he delivered almost every single time.

But that wasn’t the case this season around as he hasn’t started a game for the Gujarat Titans and Wriddhiman Saha’s good performances with the bat and with the gloves has kept him rotting on the bench. With KS Bharat also part of the side, it is highly unlikely that Matthew Wade will be returned by the defending champions and would like to invest their overseas slot in a position they would like to strengthen.
