Asian Games 2023: 3 reasons why India can win gold at the mega event

Team India under the captaincy of star young batter Ruturaj Gaikwad are all set to be in action in the Men’s Cricket Competition of the upcoming Asian Games 2023. Owing to their international ranking, the men in blue have qualified directly to the quarter-finals of the tournament, alongside Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. 

Apart from that, there are a total of 14 participants, including 9 teams for the group stage and five directly qualified full-time members. The group stage of the Men’s Cricket Competition will be divided into three groups namely A, B, and C. The tournament will be played in the T20I format.

9 Associate Nations in the tournament

If we look at the group stage of the tournament, there are all the associate nations divided in three groups, A, B, and C. Mongolia, Maldives, and Nepal are placed in the group whereas, Cambodia, Hong Kong China, and Japan are there in the group B. Apart from this, group C includes Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand. 

India will be playing their quarter-final on October 3 against one of these teams so they would have an upper hand in the tournament to seal their berth in the knockouts of the tournament. Considering the largest number of associate teams in the tournament, India can easily make their way ahead to win the gold medal in the men’s cricket competition of the Asian Games 2023. 

Players with good experience in international cricket 

Indian squad will be led by the star batter Ruturaj Gaikwad who has an experience of 11 T20Is to his name. Apart from him, the other players, including the likes of Shivam Dube, Rahul Tripathi, and Tilak Varma have a good experience for India in the T20I cricket; they all have represented India at the highest level of the game.

Apart from this, the in-form batter and IPL sensation, Rinku Singh will also be a part of Team India. Rinku recently made his T20I debut in the three-match series against Ireland last month, where he won ‘Player of the Match award in his first-ever T20I batting appearance. 

Looking at the T20I experience of Team India, they can be weighed above all the participating in the tournament, which will strengthen their run in the quest for the gold medal. 

Entering the tournament as World No.1 side 

Team India are currently the World No. 1 ranked side across all the formats of the game; they recently achieved this feat in the ongoing three-match ODI series against Australia. Similarly, they will be traveling to China for the Men’s Cricket Competition in the Asian Games 2023 as World No.1 T20I side. 

It will also boost the morale of players while playing their campaign opener as a quarter-final in the tournament against one of the winning teams from the group stage of the tournament. Being the number-one side and having in-form players in the squad will increase India’s chances of winning the most shining medal in the Men’s Cricket Competition.
