Usman Khawaja brought up his maiden double-century in Tests in the ongoing first Test of the series against Sri Lanka in Galle. The historic landmark was attained by the left-handed opener four overs before Lunch was called on Day 2.
He advanced towards a Prabath Jayasuriya delivery in the 111th over of the Australian innings, pushing it towards long-off to captivate the Australian dressing room in joy. Understandably so, Khawaja seemed delighted with the achievement.
Here’s how Khawaja brought up his double-century:

With this, the 38-year-old became the first Australian to register a double-century in Tests in the island nation. Coming out to bat with 147 runs to his tally on the opening day, Khawaja continued his clinical outing with the bat by getting to his 150 in the over subsequent to him stitching together a 200-run stand with standby skipper, Steve Smith.

Khawaja, who was in a slight bit of rut before the marathon effort at Galle, also addressed the concerns surrounding his form and place in the Australia XI after the end of the first day, admitting that it has been a “tough summer” for him with the bat.
“It’s been a tough summer, and I think I finished the summer off really well, but had a lot of people telling me how I should go by my career and what I should do from here on in. When I finish this game, I’ve got beautiful kids and a family. I’m pretty chill with everything, but it’s nice to get 100 after the summer because it was a tough time,” Khawaja said after the end of first day’s play.
“I’m not here for anyone but the team. Andrew McDonald, one thing last year he said to me, ‘I don’t care what happens, just make sure you’re on the Sri Lankan tour’. I’m not just playing cricket because I’ve got a gluttony to score lots of runs. Sixteen, seventeen, eighteen hundred is not going to make a difference to my life,” Khawaja added.
Here’s how X reacted to Khawaja’s remarkable achievement:
In 2016, @Uz_Khawaja was dismissed twice on the same day in Galle & they said Uzzy can’t play spin & here he is in 2025, dominating spin & becoming the first Australian to score a Test double ton in Sri Lanka. What a story, Usman Khawaja #SLvAus pic.twitter.com/Ow1YaVJmhR
