Twitter Reactions: Australia’s three centurions help them end Day 2 on high (Source: Twitter/X)
The Australian team continued their dominance in the first Test against Sri Lanka as they stayed in control of the game putting a huge total on the board at the end of Day 2. The visitors are looking good at the Galle International stadium and will be looking to bowl out the home team as early as possible.
The Aussies continued from where they ended on the opening day, with Steve Smith and Usman Khawaja continuing their onslaught on the bowlers and extending their partnership until the latter finally got dismissed by Jeffrey Vandersay on a well-made 141 off 251 deliveries. They formed a third-wicket partnership of 266 runs from 419 balls.
The nightmare for Sri Lanka did not end there, as debutante Josh Inglis also formed another big partnership with Khawaja and scored a brilliant century (102 off 94 deliveries). In the end, the Aussies declared on a score of 654/6 with Alex Carey remaining unbeaten on 46 and Mitchell Starc on 19. Khawaja went on to score his first double-hundred in Test cricket as well.

The Lankan Lions came into bat with a huge mountain to climb and were put under pressure straight away by the Australian bowlers. Openers Oshada Fernando and Dimuth Karunaratne got out cheaply and were soon followed by the experienced Angelo Mathews, who was dismissed due to an incredible catch by Travis Head at short leg. The Sri Lankan team in the end were left stranded at 44-3 and are trailing by 610 runs at the end of day 2.
Khawaja’s dream double ton, hundred on debut for Inglis
This was an important knock for Usman Khawaja who went on to register his highest score in Test cricket, scoring 232 off 352 deliveries which included 16 fours and one big six. The 38-year-old opening batter was in the form of his life during this match, and this is no doubt one of the best innings of his career.
This was also a big day for Josh Inglis who was playing his first ever Test match for Josh Inglis, and he made a huge impact straight away. Inglis continued to play a fearless style of cricket, where his innings consisted of 10 boundaries and a maximum. Inglis ended his innings with a strike rate of 108.51 in the end.

On a slow turner, the spinners should bowl faster …SL spinners were bowling mid 80s … ineffective…#Oz bowlers bowling mid 90s posing bigger problems to batters.#SLvsAUS .Pitch assisting spinners but slow.

#SLvsAUS the Aussie spinners seem to be getting way more purchase out of this pitch – bowling flatter and with more energy. Lyon is hitting the rough that Starc created

Looks like the pitch isn’t that flat after all… or was it just a good toss to win & bat first? #SLvsAUS
