Trent Rockets have cruised to an impressive 6-wicket win over Birmingham Phoenix in the 4th match of The Hundred 2022 at Trent Bridge, Nottingham on Saturday. Opener Alex Hales played a key role in this victory of the Rockets. He was adjudged player of the match after playing a match-winning innings of 58 runs off 41 balls.

After winning the toss, Trent Rockets captain Lewis Gregory decided to field first and sent Birmingham Phoenix to bat. Coming down to bat, Birmingham Phoenix collected a challenging score of 143 runs after losing 7 wickets from the scheduled 100 balls.

Birmingham Phoenix did not get off to a good start after coming down to bat. Opener Will Smeed (7) returned to the dressing room after being a victim of Daniel Sams for only 14 runs. But then another opener Miles Hammond and captain Moeen Ali put together a partnership of 53 runs for the 2nd wicket.

The pair broke when Moeen returned to the pavilion with 35 off 21 balls smashing 1 four and 3 sixes. Then Liam Livingstone came to the wicket. Dan Mousley came to the wicket as Hammond got out for the team’s 81 runs when Samit Patel dismissed him after scoring 28 off 19 balls. Mousley (2) also returned to the dressing room adding only 2 runs to the scoreboard.

Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, Livingstone continued to play a devastating innings at the other end. Birmingham Phoenix got a fighting capital thanks to his adventurous innings. With 5 balls left in the innings, Livingstone returned to the dressing room after being victimized by Daniel Sams with 47 runs from 28 balls. He hit 1 four and 5 sixes in this innings.

Besides, Benny Howell scored 11, Chris Benjamin 4, and Graeme van Buuren 1* for the team. Daniel Sams took the maximum number of 3 wickets with 24 runs for Trent Rockets. Apart from this, Samit Patel took 2 wickets and Lewis Gregory took 1 wicket each.

Chasing a challenging target of 144 runs, Trent Rockets lost Dawid Malan (8) for the team’s 9 runs. However, opener Alex Hales brought the victory for the team with Colin Munro in the 2nd wicket. These two made a partnership of 52 runs.

Hales did not give up despite the dismissal of Colin Munro, who scored 36 off 22 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes. He alongside Joe Root for the 3rd wicket took the team to victory. They made a huge partnership of 79 runs. As a result of their great partnership, Trent Rockets reached the verge of victory.

Hales returned to the pavilion after playing a match-winning innings of 58 runs off 41 balls for the team’s 140 runs. His innings had 5 fours and 2 sixes. On the other hand, Joe Root played an unbeaten innings of 34 runs off 26 balls and left the field with a win for the team. Tom Helm took the highest number of 2 wickets for Birmingham Phoenix. Moeen Ali and Liam Livingstone 1 wicket each for the bowling side.

After winning this match, Trent Rockets is at 4th place in the points table. On the other hand, Birmingham Phoenix is 5th in the points table with the defeat.
