Tamim explains the causes of the series loss against Zimbabwe 

Zimbabwe won the series against Bangladesh after 9 years. The team is so happy. And what emerged in Tamim Iqbal’s voice, can be called helplessness. Such contrasts emerged in the prize distribution ceremony at the end of the match. With one match left there, Bangladesh captain Tamim said an unpleasant truth as the reason for the series loss. 

Bangladesh could not sustain the pressure in the bowling against Zimbabwe as in the beginning. Tamim, however, sees the difference in the batting of the two teams, ‘I think the difference is here – they have four centuries, we don’t. That’s the big difference. Made a good score. Started well, but could not continue.”

At the press conference after the match, head coach Russell Domingo spoke in almost the same tone, ”Zimbabwe should be given credit. Especially Raza. Played two great innings under pressure. We may have scored 20 runs less in the first match. We scored  20 runs less in the second match as well. But I don’t want to make any excuses.”

However, Tamim says, playing against the spinners was not that easy, ”The wicket was good in the beginning. But it was not so easy against the spinners as in the first match. But all the credit goes to Zimbabwe. They have played better than us in this series. Credit must be given to them.”

After losing in ODI series after T20, Bangladesh is returning to the forgotten experience in this tour of Zimbabwe. In the T20, however, the last match was the series decider. However, after losing the series in the first two matches in the ODIs, the last match is now a match of formalities as this series is not part of the World Cup Super League. Tamim, however, is still not giving up hope of playing ‘good’ cricket, ”We actually have to play better. We have to play your best. Haven’t played the best so far. That is why we are in this situation.”

 Meanwhile, Domingo does not want to criticize the ODI team even after losing the series. Rather, he sees it as a lesson, ”It is not right to criticize the ODI team on the performance of the last two days. But much work remains to be done. They scored 4 centuries, we didn’t score one. All members of the coaching staff and the team have learned a lot. The World Cup is coming. Fortunately, there are no points in these matches.”
