Sydney Thunder and Brisbane Heat met in the 17th match of BBL 2022/23 yesterday (Tuesday). Batting first in that match, Brisbane heat set a low target in the allotted 20 overs. But in the 2nd innings, Sydney Thunder reached the target long before the scheduled 20 overs were over. Also, Sydney Thunder is in the 5th place in the points table after winning this match and Brisbane Heat is at the bottom of the table after losing the match. Besides, Matthew Gilkes won the man-of-the-match title for Sydney Thunder due to his excellent batting.

Brisbane Heat won the toss and elected to bat first and invited Sydney Thunder to bowl. Batting first, the openers of the Brisbane heat did not do well at all. They lost 3 wickets for the team’s 26 runs. Their 1st wicket fell in the 2nd over. Max Bryant was caught out after playing 7 balls and left the field after scoring only 1 run. Then Matt Renshaw left the field, scoring 9 runs off 10 balls. After 4 balls, Sam Billings was caught out again and returned to the dressing room, scoring 1 run in just 4 balls. Then their captain Jimmy Peirson entered the field along with Colin Munro. Together they stopped the fall of wickets. But it didn’t make any changes, their 4th wicket fell on the team’s 77 runs. Chris Green took 2 wickets for 14 runs in 4 overs for Sydney Thunder. And Daniel Sams took 2 wickets for 27 runs in 4 overs. Besides, Nathan McAndrew and Usman Qadir took 1 wicket each.

Batting for 122 runs, without losing any wickets, Sydney Thunder reached the port of victory with 8 overs and 2 balls in hand. Their two openers Matthew Gilkes and Alex Hales batted brilliantly. Matthew Gilkes played a great inning of 56 runs off 34 balls. His innings of 56 runs were decorated with 6 fours and 3 sixes. Another opener Alex Hales scored 59 runs from 36 balls. He had 10 fours in his innings. The run rates of the two were 164.71 and 163.89. In the end, they left the field with a victory of 124 runs with 9 extra runs.

Mitchell Swepson gave 40 runs in 3 overs for Brisbane Heat and Michael Nesser gave 31 runs in 3 overs.
