Punjab Kings (PBK) has defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 54 runs in the 60th match of IPL 2022 on Friday at Brabourne-CCI Stadium in Mumbai courtesy of Johnny Bairstow and Liam Livingstone. PBKS still keeps alive the hopes of play-off by winning this match.

After winning the toss, RCB captain Faf du Plessis decided to field sending PBKS to bat first. Opener Jonny Bairstow gave the team a flying start after coming down to bat. Accompanied by Shikhar Dhawan, the batsman scored 60 runs in the first 5 overs.

Dhawan (15 off 21 balls) was bowled by Glenn Maxwell while trying to play a slog sweep and the pair broke up. However, the Bairstow violence did not stop there. The English batsman completed his 50 with 21 balls by hitting a six off Mohammed Siraj.

Bhanuka Rajapaksa scored 1 run and returned to the dressing room after falling victim to his compatriot Wanindu Hasaranga. Bairstow storm also stopped in the 10th over. Shahbaz Ahmed sent back the opener to the pavilion after playing a devastating innings of 66 runs off 29 balls smashing 4 boundaries and 7 sixes.

Captain Mayank Agarwal could not score more than 19 runs from 16 balls. However, in the dazzling batting, Liam Livingstone has done the job of bringing up a big score collection for the team.

The batsman, who picked up fifty off 35 balls, kept the stadium crazy by pounding four and sixes till the last over. With 4 balls left in the innings, Harshal Patel finally sent him back to the dressing room. Livingstone played a stormy innings of 70 off 42 balls with 5 fours and 4 sixes. As a result, PBKS lost 9 wickets and collected a huge score of 209 runs in the allotted 20 overs.

Harshal Patel took the highest number of 4 wickets for RCB. Wanindu Hasaranga took 2 wickets conceding only 15 runs in 4 overs. Glenn Maxwell and Shahbaz Ahmed scalped one wicket each.

After coming down to chase down the big target of 210 runs, RCB stopped at 155 runs for 9 wickets due to the batting failure of the team. RCB was initially looking forward to Virat Kohli’s return to the rhythm. But after he got out with 20 runs from 14 balls, the captain Du Plessis (10) got out quickly as well. Then Mahipal Lomror also returned to the dressing room with 6 runs.

The pair of Rajat Patidar and Glenn Maxwell was showing hope to the RCB fans, who were not amazed to lose 3 wickets in 7 runs. But when these two return in 3 balls, that hope was also extinguished. On the fourth wicket, the duo took 64 runs off 37 balls. Patidar made 26 off 21 balls and Maxwell made 35 off 22 balls. RCB lost their last 7 wickets for 51 runs.

For PBKS, Kagiso Rabada took the maximum number of 3 wickets with 21 runs in 4 overs. Besides, Rishi Dhawan and Rahul Chahar took 2 wickets each while Arshdeep Singh and Harpreet Brar took 1 wicket each.

Punjab Kings have risen to 6th position in the points table with 6 wins and 6 losses in 12 matches. On the other hand, Royal Challengers Bangalore is still in the 4th position with 14 points from 13 matches with 7 wins and 6 losses.
