Rajasthan seek overseas players on loan for the rest of their IPL games

The most suffering team in the IPL at the moment is probably the Rajasthan Royals. They are not happy with their performance on the field and some instances are also creating some problems for them.

There were incidents of injuries on the team. Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer, two of the team’s main stars, have been knocked out for the entire season due to injury. Australian fast bowler Andrew Tye and English batsman Liam Livingstone have also left from this edition of IPL. In India, the pandemic situation is getting worse day by day and the staging of IPL is a burning question. Livingstone and Tye officially being told that the reason for leaving the IPL is that they are mentally exhausted by the strict observance of biological protection. 

There are only four foreigners in the team now, including Bangladeshi left-arm fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman. Rajasthan has therefore written letters to other franchisees in the IPL to lend some of their foreign players. Apart from Mustafiz, Rajasthan has only Jos Buttler, Chris Morris, and David Miller as injury-free, playable foreign players.

In the IPL, teams can play with four foreigners in the XI. In this situation having only four foreigners in the entire team means that the pressure on these four foreigners has surely increased. There is no opportunity to play with any overseas player instead of them, the way to play them with shuffling is also closed. 60% of Rajasthan’s matches are still left in the group stage of IPL. The team led by Sanju Samson has played 5 out of 14 matches in the group stage.

Rajasthan needs to take foreign players on loan. According to the rules of IPL, the window of loan for the IPL starts the day after the 20 matches of the season’s group stage from Indian time 9 am. This remains open until the afternoon of the 56th match of the season. This means that the window for borrowing players has been open since 9 am on Monday, April 26.

The window has opened and according to the IPL rules, anyone who has played less than two matches in the season until the start of the loan period can be sent to another franchise on loan. A player can only go on loan once in a season, the loan period has to be till the end of the season.

However, a player cannot play for the borrowed team against his main team. A franchise cannot lend more than 3 players in a season to any other specific franchise. It is also important to note here that a player cannot be loaned out against his will.

Apart from this, there are some more strict rules for giving and taking players on loans. According to Indian media, the BCCI may relax some rules as players are pulling out their names from the IPL 2021 for various reasons as the tournament is being held amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
