Perth Scorchers and Melbourne Stars faced each other in the 20th match of BBL 2022/23 yesterday (Thursday). In that match, Melbourne Stars set a target in the allotted 20 overs after batting first. But in the 2nd innings, Perth Scorchers reached the target before the scheduled 20 overs were completed. Also, after winning this match, Perth Scorchers are in the 1st place in the points table and Melbourne Stars are in the 7th place after losing the match. Besides, Jhye Richardson won the man-of-the-match title for Perth Scorchers due to his excellent bowling.

Melbourne Stars won the toss and elected to bat first and invited Perth Scorchers to bowl. Batting first, Melbourne Stars did not start well. They lost 3 wickets for the team’s 34 runs. Thomas Rogers left the field first. He was caught out on the 4th ball of the 4th over. He scored 20 off 14 balls with 4 fours before getting out. In the very next ball, Beau Webster was trapped in lbw and departed after a golden duck. Then Nick Larkin returned to the dressing room with only 4 runs off 6 balls. Then Marcus Stoinis entered the field to manage the game with Joe Clarke. But to no avail, he was caught out after the team scored 62 runs and left the field, he scored 10 runs off 10 balls before getting out. Soon after that, their other opener Joe Clarke, who was on the field for a long time to change the situation left the field. He scored 33 runs off 30 balls with the help of 2 fours and 1 six. Then their score was 76-5. They lost 3 more wickets to score 86 runs from there. Campbell Kellaway scored 3 runs off 3 balls. Nathan Coulter-Nile scored only 2 runs off 6 balls. Luke Wood hit the golden duck. From there, Hilton Cartwright and Trent Boult combined to take the team’s runs above 130. Then in the 5th ball of the last over, Hilton Cartwright was caught out and scored 36 off 32 balls with the help of 2 fours and 2 sixes. Besides, Trent Boult was unbeaten on 23 runs off 16 balls. He also hit 3 sixes. In the end, Melbourne Stars scored 135 runs after losing 10 wickets with 4 extra runs.

Batting for a target of 135 runs, Perth Scorchers lost 4 wickets in response and reached the port of victory with 2.3 overs in hand. Captain Ashton Turner scored the most runs for them. He scored 53 runs off 26 balls with the help of 6 fours and 3 sixes. Adam Lyth scored 35 runs off 30 balls with the help of 3 fours. Aaron Hardie scored 17 runs off 19 balls. He also hit 2 fours. Faf du Plessis scored 3 runs. Besides, Josh Inglis remained unbeaten on 19 runs after playing 23 balls and Nick Hobson remained unbeaten on 1 run. In the end, they left the field with a victory with 8 runs extra.
