PAK vs ENG (2nd Test)

At the end of the third day, the fate of the Multan Test was swinging like a pendulum. However, on the fourth day, the host Pakistan seemed to get the victory into their hands. However, in the display of their unpredictable character, they lost the last 5 wickets to score 38 runs. The visiting England beat Pakistan by 26 runs in the Multan Test to clinch the three-match series with one Test remaining.

This was England’s first series win in Pakistan since the 2000–01 season. This is the first time they have won two consecutive Tests in Pakistan. On the other hand, this is the first time since 1959 that Pakistan has lost three consecutive Tests at home. After losing the Lahore Test to Australia last March, Pakistan lost two consecutive Tests in the series against England.

England got off to a great start when they came for a tour to Pakistan after 17 years. After winning the first Test in Rawalpindi, England won the toss and batted first in the 2nd Test, they managed to score 281 runs in the 1st innings. Pakistan was all out for 202 runs in their first innings. After England was bowled out for 275 in the second innings, Pakistan got a target of 355 to win as a result of that.

Pakistan ended the third day of the second Test with 198 for 4. They needed 157 runs to win on the fourth day. The hosts were on their way to victory at one point as Saud Shakeel kept one end safe. But fast bowler Mark Wood picked up Shakeel (94) and Mohammad Nawaz (45) to bring England back into the match. After the fall of the seventh wicket (Saud Shakeel) for the team’s 291 runs, Pakistan could not stay on the path to victory.

The partnership between Shakeel and Faheem Ashraf did not last long in the morning session on Day 4. Faheem (10) got back to the pavilion being a victim of Joe Root’s spin, adding only 7 runs. After that, Nawaz and Shakeel put on 80 runs for the sixth wicket partnership and Pakistan returned to the fight. But in his two consecutive overs (92nd and 94th), Wood picked up Nawaz and Shakeel to turn the match towards the visitors.

James Anderson, Mark Wood, and Ollie Robinson picked up Pakistan’s tail batsmen and gave England a great victory. Wood snapped up 4 wickets for 65 runs. Besides, Anderson and Robinson took 2 wickets each, and Joe Root and Jack Leach took 1 wicket each.

Before this, Pakistani spinner Abrar Ahmed had left the English batters in dilemma in the first innings. He took 7 wickets alone in his debut Test. All of those wickets were from the top order till the seventh batsman. England got bowled out for 281 runs on the first day thanks to the magic of this 24-year-old legspinner. Zahid Mahmood took the remaining three wickets.

In reply, Pakistan was bowled out for 202 runs in the 1st innings. Leach took the maximum number of 4 wickets for the English. Apart from this, Root and Wood took 2 wickets, and Anderson and Robinson took 1 wicket each. Then Harry Brook’s century enabled England to post 275 in the second innings. Brook returned to the pavilion scoring 108 off 149 balls with 14 fours and 1 six.

Besides, opener Ben Duckett scored 79 and English captain Ben Stokes made 41 runs. Abrar Ahmed scalped the highest number of 4 wickets in the 2nd innings for the Men in Green as well. Besides, Zahid took 3 wickets and Mohammad Nawaz took 1 wicket.

Harry Brook was named the player of the match after scoring a brilliant century in the second innings for England. The two teams will face each other in the third and final Test of the series in Karachi on December 17 (Saturday).
