PAK vs ENG (5th T20I) – Highlights

In the fifth match of the seven-match T20I series, hosts Pakistan defeated visiting England by 6 runs to take a 3-2 lead in the series on Wednesday (September 28). Along with this, wicket-keeper batsman Mohammad Rizwan was selected as the player of the match for his consistent performance.

After losing the toss at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, Pakistan could not make much of an advantage by batting first. Mark Wood, David Willey, and Sam Curran’s bowling rampage ended Pakistan’s innings at 145 runs in 19 overs. Mohammad Rizwan scored the highest 63 runs off 46 balls for the team. Where there were 2 fours and 3 sixes.

Apart from Rizwan, only two other batsmen have reached double figures. In which, Iftikhar Ahmed scored 15 runs off 14 balls and the anointed Aamer Jamal scored 10 runs off 7 balls. Mark Wood took the highest number of three wickets for England. Apart from this, David Willey and Sam Curran took two wickets each, and Chris Woakes took one wicket.

In response, the English were in danger at the beginning when they came down to bat. Mohammad Nawaz picked up the wicket of opener Alex Hales (1) in the first over. Then Philip Salt (3) and Ben Duckett (10) were sent back by two pacers Haris Rauf and Mohammad Wasim Jr. England fell under pressure after losing three top-order batters within 31 runs.

In that situation, the two spinners Shadab Khan and Iftikhar Ahmed cornered the visitors. Both of them bowled eight overs, they conceded 41 runs and took 2 wickets. England’s pressure to score runs per over increases with the slow pace of scoring runs. As a result, the visitors lost their sixth wicket for the team’s 85 runs.

From there, captain Moeen took England close to victory in the last over. He put on a 46-run partnership for the seventh wicket with Chris Woakes. They needed 15 runs to win in the last over, but England could take 9 runs only. England picked up 7 runs in the first three balls. Where Moeen hit a six also.

As a result, the English needed 8 runs from the last three balls of Pakistani pacer Aamer Jamal, who came down to play his debut match. Moeen Ali was in the strike, who hit 2 fours and 4 sixes. But the England captain couldn’t make it in the end.

The fourth ball was a yorker, and so was the fifth ball. However, Moeen somehow managed to get a single. David Willey could only take one run off the last ball. As a result, Pakistan won by 6 runs even with a capital of only 145 runs. Along with that, Moeen left the field with a defeat after playing an unbeaten inning of 51 runs from 37 balls.

All the bowlers took wickets for Pakistan in this match. Haris Rauf took the highest number of 2 wickets. Apart from this, Iftikhar Ahmed, Mohammad Nawaz, Shabad Khan, Aamer Jamal, and Mohammad Wasim Jr picked up one wicket each.

England won the first match of the series, and Pakistan won the next match to level the series. England won the third match and went ahead in the series again. However, after winning the next two matches, the hosts are leading the series by 3-2. Tomorrow Friday (September 30) these two teams will meet in the 6th match of the series at the same time and at the same venue.
