NZ vs IND (3rd T20I) – Highlights

India and New Zealand met in the final match of the three-match T20 series at McLean Park, Napier, New Zealand on Tuesday. Batting first in that match, New Zealand folded before playing the scheduled 20 overs. They also set a rough target. But chasing that goal, the game was interrupted due to rain. As a result, the match was tied by DLS system. Mohammad Siraj won the Man of the Match title by bowling brilliantly in that match and Suryakumar Yadav won the Man of the Series title with his brilliant batting in the 2nd match.

After winning the toss and batting first, Finn Allen was trapped in LBW off Arshdeep Singh in the second over, he scored 3 runs from 4 balls. New Zealand also lost Mark Chapman in the power-play (12 runs from 12 balls), although the total was 46 runs. New Zealand was then given the lead by the third-wicket partnership of Devon Conway and Glenn Phillips, who added 86 runs off 63 balls. However, both returned with a gap of 6 balls.

Mohammed Siraj caught out Glenn Phillips after scoring 54 runs off 33 balls. His innings of 54 runs had 5 fours and 3 sixes. In the next over, Conway, who scored 59 off 49 balls, was caught by Ishan Kishan at deep midwicket off Arshdeep. He also hit 5 fours and 2 sixes.

New Zealand’s innings then collapsed. The hosts lost the last 6 wickets to score 30 runs. Siraj struck twice in the 18th over – Mitchell Santner (1) returned to the pavilion after James Neesham (0). Darryl Mitchell (10) and Ish Sodhi (0) returned off two consecutive balls in the next over by Arshdeep, and Adam Milne (0) was run out with a hat trick off Arshdeep.

New Zealand’s innings ended 2 balls early when Harshal Patel bowled New Zealand Captain Tim Southee (6). One-four came in the last 16 balls, losing 6 wickets and New Zealand scored only 13 runs. In the end, they scored 160 runs with 10 runs extra.

Mohammad Siraj and Arshdeep Singh took 4 wickets each for India, although Mohammad Siraj was frugal. Besides, Harshal Patel took 1 wicket.

Their last T20 against New Zealand ended in a DLS tie after the rain stopped India’s batting in the 2nd innings. In Napier, India went into bat with a target of 161 runs and scored 75 runs after losing 4 wickets at the end of 9 overs. At that time India’s ‘par’ score in the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern system was 75, meaning that to win, the score had to be more than 75 runs.

Then the rain subsided but the game could not start, resulting in a tie. After the first match was washed out by rain, India won the second, resulting in Hardik Pandya’s side winning the series by 1-0. This is the second time in history that a T20 international has been tied using the DLS system. The first time it happened was in Gibraltar and Malta, last year. However, there are three such incidents in ODIs.

In the run chase, however, India was under pressure early on. Kishan (10) was caught off the last ball of the second over at deep square leg. Southee sent Rishabh Pant (11) and Shreyas Iyer (0) to the sack with two consecutive balls in the third over, standing in front of a hat-trick for the second consecutive match. However, the ball was wide.

It was Pandya who then counter-attacked. However, Suryakumar Yadav started the fourth over by hitting Milne for a four, and Pandya hit two more fours in that over. In the next over, the Indian skipper attacked New Zealand skipper Southee, with six followed by a four. In the last over of the powerplay, Suryakumar, who scored a century in the previous match, hit Lockie Ferguson for a six with great use of his wrist, India made 58 runs in 6 overs.

After that, Sodhi broke the 22-ball 39-run partnership in the next over by sending Suryakumar back to the bench. After that wicket, Mitchell Santner, who came at the other end with Sodhi, slowed India’s run rate a bit, 17 runs came in the next 3 overs after the Powerplay. The Rain came at the end of the ninth over, due to which the game could not start.
