Nepal bans captain Lamichhane from cricket

The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has banned Nepal’s national team captain Sandeep Lamichhane after recent rape allegations and an arrest warrant issued against him.

CAN Acting Secretary Prashant Vikram told the media that, “Lamichhane will remain banned till the investigation is over. The ban is imposed at the meeting with the board.”

According to an ANI report on September 7, a 17-year-old girl herself made this complaint against Lamichhan. He complained of being raped twice.

The victim said in the complaint, “I have been a fan of Lamichhane for a long time. At one point I got a chance to talk to him. Gradually we became friends. Then we used to talk on WhatsApp and Snapchat regularly. Later Lamichhane himself proposed to meet for the first time.”

Recently this cricketer went to West Indies to play CPL for Jamaica Tallawahs. The girl said that this incident happened before going there. After the matter came to light, he was also dismissed from the team of Cpl. Lamichhane did not play in any of the three matches.

It should be noted that in 2021, Lamichhane got the captaincy of the Nepal national team. He has played franchise cricket leagues in different countries. Lamichhane was the only Nepali to play for Delhi Capitals. The Nepal Cricket Board ordered him to report to the police in Kathmandu after allegations of rape were made against him.
