Zimbabwe announce strong squad to meet Netherlands

Zimbabwe will be going up against the Netherlands for a three-match ODI series, scheduled to begin on Tuesday, March 21. The three matches will be part of the ODI World Cup Super League as the Chevrons will look to rise the ranks; a win in the series will be crucial for direct qualification to the ODI World Cup in India later in 2023.

As the series is scheduled to begin, Zimbabwe announced their squad for their games against the Netherlands. The Chevrons saw many big names returning and will look to field the strongest possible squad and etch out a victory.

Every series match will be held at the Harare Sports Club, and the side will be bolstered by the home crowd and returning players like Ryan Burl and Sikandar Raza. Zimbabwe will be keen to win the series and hope for direct qualification to the World Cup.

Apart from Burl and Raza, Sean Williams, Tendai Chatara and Blessing Muzarabani, Gary Ballance, Innocent Kaia, Wellington Masakadza, and Richard Ngarava also return to the side to further boost their chances.

Following the squad’s announcement, the head coach of the Chevrons, Dave Houghton, came forward to give his take on the players that have gathered to take on the Netherlands.

“It’s great to have the whole team back and everyone fighting fit. It’s naturally our intention to win the series; however, in doing so, it is also an opportunity to try out different combinations to achieve that goal, with an eye on the upcoming World Cup qualifier tournament,” Dave Houghton stated in a release.
