Gujarat Giants (GUJ-W) and UP Warriorz (UP-W) will lock horns in the 17th match of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on March 20, Monday. As the league stage of the tournament is nearing to end, both sides will be desperate for a victory. UP-W keep their hopes in the tournament alive while GUJ-W cannot survive without winning their remaining matches.

Gujarat Giants, led by Sneh Rana, are currently standing at the bottom of the points table. They lost to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by eight wickets in their previous game. Notably, Gujarat have to beat UP Warriorz with a mammoth margin to better their net run rate.

UP Warriorz, on the other hand, are placed third in the table with six points. Alyssa Healy and Co. will be high on confidence after beating frontrunners Mumbai Indians by five wickets. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side have already reached the playoffs of the first-ever WPL season.

The UP Warriorz need only one win to make their way through to the playoffs. However, if they win, RCB and GUJ-W will be knocked out of the tournament.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch of the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai usually plays well throughout and is considered good for batting. The wickets will get slower and the team which will bat first probably can score huge totals.

Probable Playing XI for GUJ-W vs UP-W

Gujarat Giants Women

Gujarat Giants will be looking for a win in the upcoming match and they will field their best playing XI. If they lose this game they will not get any chance to reach the playoffs. They will look at both departments and select players accordingly. Now, regarding the recent performance of the Gujarat Giants, they got pounded by RCB in the last match despite putting up a huge total of 188 runs. With UP Warriorz coming good things will not be easy for the Giants ahead.

Probable Playing XI:  Sophia Dunkley, Laura Wolvaardt, Harleen Deol, Ashleigh Gardner, Dayalan Hemalatha, Sabbhineni Meghana, Sushma Verma (wk), Kim Garth, Sneh Rana (c), Tanuja Kanwar, Ashwani Kumari

UP Warriorz Women

The Alyssa Healy-led UP Warriorz are coming in with a terrific win over Mumbai Indians. They are likely to field the same playing XI for their match against Gujarat Giants to keep their winning momentum. Speaking of the UP Warriorz, in the last match against MI, they pulled off a thrilling win to stop their winning ways.

Though they do need to address their middle-order woes which have been prevailing for some time now. But stopping MI has certainly boosted their confidence to come into the next game with a positive mindset. Given their last encounter with the Giants, Warriorz pulled off a difficult target of 170, which surely gives them the mental edge over the Giants going into the next clash.

Probable Playing XI: Alyssa Healy (c & wk), Devika Vaidya, Kiran Navgire, Tahlia McGrath, Grace Harris, Deepti Sharma, Simran Shaikh, Sophie Ecclestone, Parshavi Chopra, Anjali Sarvani, Rajeshwari Gayakwad
