With the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023 season scheduled to begin on March 4, Mumbai Indians will take on Gujarat Giants in the curtain raiser at the Dr. DY. Patil Sports Academy and both sides would look to set the tone for the rest of the tournament.

Mumbai Indians boast an impressive line-up as they will be led by Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur. Apart from Kaur, Mumbai also have the likes of Amelia Kerr, Nat Sciver-Brunt, and many more to further boost their chances in the tournament.

As the first match is right around the corner, the skipper of the Indian men’s team, Rohit Sharma, came forward to wish luck to Mumbai Indians as they gear up to begin their campaign against Gujarat Giants. He also reflected on how the women’s team could emulate the success of their male counterparts.

“The Women’s Premier League is here and I am quite keen to see how the season unfolds. Especially for the Mumbai Indians who have done extremely well in the auction, getting some amazing players and they have got some really good support staff as well,” Rohit Sharma said in a video posted by Mumbai Indians on Twitter.

“Just want to wish them the very best for the season. I hope they can go on to achieve something really really special this season,” he added.

Harmanpreet Kaur will look to lead her side to title glory

As Mumbai Indians take on Gujarat Giants on March 4, skipper Harmanpreet Kaur will look for ways to get off to a winning start in the tournament. However, it is not going to be a cakewalk as Beth Mooney-led Gujarat Giants will be going all out to draw the first blood.

Gujarat will be fielding the likes of Ashleigh Gardner and Harleen Deol in their quest for victory. They also roped in former Indian skipper Mithali Raj as a mentor for the inaugural season. On the other hand, Mithali’s close colleague from the Indian setup and another legend of the women’s game Jhulan Goswami will be coaching the Mumbai team.
