St Kitts and Nevis Patriots secured a massive 8-wicket victory over Jamaica Tallawahs courtesy of Rashid Khan’s brilliant spell in match 17 of CPL 2022 at Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad. Spinner Rashid Khan was adjudged as the player of the match after taking one wicket with just 8 runs in four overs including a maiden.

At the start of the match, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots captain Dwayne Bravo won the toss and elected to field, which put Jamaica Tallawahs to bat first. Coming down to bat, Jamaica Tallawahs managed to score 139 runs by losing 5 wickets in the 20 overs due to the aggressive bowling of St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots’ bowlers.

Batting from the start, the two openers of Jamaica Tallawahs, Brandon King and Kennar Lewis, were under pressure. Lewis tried to be a bit more aggressive, but he returned to the dressing room after being caught by Rashid Khan in the 6th over of the innings. He scored 24 runs off 17 balls with the help of 5 boundaries. After his departure, the run rate of Jamaica Tallawahs slowed down further.

The team, which lost one wicket in 6 overs of power play and picked up 49 runs, lost 2 more wickets in the next 6 overs for only 32 runs. Opener Brandon King scored 22 runs off 23 balls. In the end, Jamaica Tallawahs could score 139 runs courtesy of them. Fabian Allen scored 23 runs off 24 balls. In addition, Reifer remained unbeaten with 40 runs in 26 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes.

Apart from Rashid Khan, Sherfane Rutherford, Akila Dananjaya and Dwayne Bravo took 1 wicket each for St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. However, after the end of 1st innings, the rain interrupted the match. As a result, the match was reduced from 20 overs to 15 overs. The new target for St Kitts and Nevis Patriots stood at 113 runs by the DLS system.

Chasing a challenging target of 113 runs in 15 overs, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots reached the port of victory in 12.3 overs losing just 2 wickets. Wicketkeeper batsmen Andre Fletcher and Evin Lewis got the team off to a flying start. They both picked up 49 runs in 5 overs. Lewis went back to the dressing room after scoring 20 runs off 12 balls, but Fletcher left the field winning the team.

Darren Bravo, who came at number three in the wicket, returned to the pavilion playing a devastating innings of 39 off 21 balls, with 3 fours and 3 sixes. However, Fletcher left the field after playing an unbeaten match-winning innings of 45 runs off 38 balls. His innings had an equal number of 3 fours and sixes. Besides, Rutherford remained unbeaten with 7 runs from 4 balls. Imad Wasim and Fabian Allen took 1 wicket each for Jamaica Tallawahs.

By winning this match, St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots have moved up to 3rd place in the points table. On the other hand, Jamaica Talawahs are still in the 2nd position in the points table after losing this match.
