The International League Twenty20 (ILT) was held for the first time in the United Arab Emirates. Ending all the speculations, the curtain finally came down on the first season. Gulf Giants won the title as the champions of this almost month-long tournament. To take home the title for the first time, Gulf did not face much of a challenge in the final match. Desert Vipers were blown away by Gulf by a margin of 7 wickets.
Desert and Gulf met in the final of the ILT at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday night. Where Gulf won the toss and invited Desert to bat first. According to the plan, the Desert batsmen were squeezed by the Gulfers from the beginning. Carlos Brathwaite’s bowling left the opponent bewildered. He also became the man of the match by taking 3 wickets.
After winning the final, Brathwaite thanked not only himself but his teammates and everyone involved. He said, “I’m really happy. Thanks a lot to my teammates. I’m proud of this team. Thanks to the management and everyone else for giving me the opportunity to play. It’s going to be a night to remember for us. It’s time to celebrate.”
Brathwaite ranks the ILT among the many franchise-based T20 leagues around the world. The West Indies star cricketer said, “In one word, ILT is a great tournament. Although many people have questioned the quality of this league. But I have not seen anything lacking in ILT. Neither the quality of play nor technical errors have been seen in this league.”
It should be noted that the United Arab Emirates has entered the era of franchise cricket as seen by almost all the countries of the world. ILT is their first tournament. And to make this event beautiful and crowded, the country has spent a lot of money. All the famous cricketers of the world are brought with a hefty amount. In addition, the country has given its best in terms of other arrangements. Being the champion in the first season, Gulf is overflowing with happiness. Along with that, the host country is also happy for organizing everything successfully.
