Foreign coach does not want to take charge of Pakistan: Wasim Akram

বিদেশি কোচ পাকিস্তানের দায়িত্ব নিতে চায়না : ওয়াসিম আকরাম

Najam Sethi has changed many things in Pakistan cricket after taking charge of the Pakistan Cricket Board. Najam Sethi’s new board is also looking for a new coach for Pakistan’s national cricket team. Now they want to hire a foreign coach. But Pakistan’s legendary cricketer Wasim Akram has claimed that no foreign coach wants to take charge of coaching the Pakistan team.

Mickey Arthur’s name was heard as the coach of Pakistan. But Mickey Arthur did not agree to contract with Pakistan Cricket Board. Some of them have already informed themselves that they don’t want to be the coach of Pakistan. Andy Flower and Tom Mundy are among them. But why do foreigners not want to coach Pakistan? Pakistan’s former legendary pacer Wasim Akram answered this question.

This Pakistani legend said, “I have been hearing for a long time that a new coach will be appointed for Pakistan. But the truth is that foreigners do not want to become the coach of Pakistan. They think that their contract will be cancelled when the new committee comes to the PCB, and they have little hope. So they are afraid of becoming coaches of Pakistan. Foreigners won’t come here. If foreign coaches are not available, then Pakistani coaches should take charge. Because we have no choice.”

According to news sources, a contract extension is not guaranteed in becoming a Pakistan coach. The Board cannot give any guarantee in this regard. Such happened with Mickey Arthur. While discussing coaching with Sethi, Arthur brought up his past bitter experiences. After the 2019 World Cup, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) offered to extend their contract but ultimately did not happen. He was to go without extending the contract.

Arthur is under contract with the English county team Derbyshire. And he has to come to an agreement with Pakistan by cancelling this agreement. But Arthur wonders whether his contract will be secure in the future as he balances his contract with Derbyshire and comes to coach Pakistan. As the Pakistan Cricket Board is in flux, no one can give him this assurance. That’s why this foreign coach is afraid to become the coach of Pakistan.
