In a rain-interrupted CPL 2022 match, Barbados Royals registered a massive 80-run win by DLS method over Trinbago Knight Riders at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet. David Miller, the captain of Barbados Royals, was selected as the player of the match after playing devastating innings of 60 runs from 36 balls with the bat.

At the start of the match, Trinbago Knight Riders captain Kieron Pollard won the toss and elected to field sending Barbados Royals to bat first. Barbados Royals collected a big score of 194 runs after losing 4 wickets in the scheduled 20 overs.

The two openers of Barbados Royals, Kyle Mayers, and Quinton de Kock, got off to a flying start. They scored 60 runs in 6 overs of power play. The two of them put together an opening partnership of 85 runs off 55 balls. Mayers picked up a half-century off 29 balls. But after that, he could not stay on the wicket for long.

Mayers returned to the dressing room after scoring 52 runs off 33 balls with 5 fours and 4 sixes. Captain Miller came to the wicket after his departure. With de Kock in tow, he continued to score runs. They both made a partnership of 35 runs for the 2nd wicket. De Kock got out as he reached nearby to his half-century. He scored 44 runs off 34 balls with 6 boundaries.

Then, with Azam Khan for the 3rd wicket, Miller formed a stormy partnership of 58 runs off 29 balls. Barbados Royals could collect a big total due to this pair of them. Miller returned to the pavilion with the team’s 178 runs in the last ball of the 19th over. His innings of 60 off 36 balls was played with 5 fours and 2 sixes.

On the other hand, Azam Khan was run out scoring 18 runs from 11 balls in the first ball of the last over of the innings. The team score was then 179/4. From there, Jason Holder’s stormy batting helped the team to get 15 runs off the last 5 balls. Holder left the field with 2 fours and 1 six playing an unbeaten 14-run innings from 4 balls. Sunil Narine, Ravi Rampaul, and Andre Russell took 1 wicket each for Trinbago Knight Riders.

Chasing a massive target of 195 runs, the Trinbago Knight Riders collapsed like a house of cards under the bowling canon of the Barbados Royals bowlers. From the 2nd to the 7th over, Trinbago Knight Riders lost consecutive wickets every over. Where Devon Thomas took two wickets alone in the 5th over.

Apart from Colin Munro, no other batsman could touch double figures for the team. With 1 four and 1 six, he scored the best 12 runs off 7 balls for the team. As a result, at the end of 8 overs, the team’s score stood at 51/7. But after that, it started to rain and the game got interrupted. As a result, not a single ball could be rolled on the field. In the end, Barbados Royals left the stadium with a huge victory of 80 runs in the DLS method.

Devon Thomas, Obed McCoy, and Oshane Thomas took 2 wickets each for Barbados Royals. Besides, Jason Holder took 1 wicket.

Barbados Royals have won three consecutive matches and climbed to the top of the points table. On the other hand, Trinbago Knight Riders are now at the 3rd position in the points table after getting defeated in this match.
