Afghanistan looking for a new coach

Afghanistan’s head coach Graham Thorpe has been seriously ill for several days. He is also unlikely to recover very soon. That is why the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) is looking for a new head coach. Rais Khan Ahmadzai is currently serving as interim in place of Thorpe.

Afghanistan is currently one of the emerging superpowers in world cricket. Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi are able to change the scene of a match against any team on their own day. Former England star Thorpe has been named the new head coach after former South African all-rounder Lance Klusner.

But a few days after taking charge of Afghanistan, Thorpe became seriously ill and was hospitalized. Thorpe was also England’s batting coach in February this year. However, he stepped down after the defeat in the Ashes series against Australia. After that he took charge of the Afghan team.

Afghanistan traveled to Zimbabwe under Ahmadzai due to Thorpe’s illness. Where Rashid Khan has won all three ODIs and three T20I matches. Meanwhile, the ACB wants to appoint a new head coach before the tour of Ireland to play a five-match T20 series in August.

Afghanistan have appointed West Indies’ Ryan Maron as their fielding coach ahead of the T20 World cup in Australia. For the time being, the initial appointment is for 6 months, but later the issue of extending the contract will depend on the performance. Besides, Umar Gul has been appointed as the bowling coach.
