90-minute restriction imposed to complete an inning in IPL 2021 & also free from Soft Signal dilemma

New rules for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 have been announced by The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The BCCI stated in a statement, “The 20 overs of an innings must be completed within 90 minutes. Previously, the 20th over usually started within 90 minutes or in 90 minutes. Now the 20th over has been included within 90 minutes. ”

According to the statement, in IPL matches, a minimum of 14.1 overs per hour must be completed (excluding strategic time-out time). In a match, the 20th over should be bowled within 90 minutes of the start of the innings (85 minutes of playtime and 5 minutes of time-out). If the overs of the game need to be reduced due to rain interruption or any other interruption, then the duration of the match will also change. 90 minutes are allotted for 20 overs and an average of 4 minutes and 15 seconds will be deducted for the omission of each over.

Considering the time further, the BCCI has given the authority to the fourth umpire with the task of enforcing the rules and has given the power to warn the batting team if they engage in time-wasting tactics. According to, “Section 12.7.3.4 includes a provision to penalize a batting team for wasting time.” The fourth umpire will make both the batting captain (if not on the wicket) and the team manager aware of the warnings.

The BCCI has also removed the soft signal rule in the IPL. Under the new rules, the on-field umpire’s soft signal will not affect the third umpire’s decision. The BCCI stated that the 3rd umpire will not be required to signal the software for showing his decision, conforming to on-field umpire’s soft signal.

The BCCI further said, “If both on-field umpires need the help of the third umpire to make a decision, the two umpires on the field will be able to communicate with the third umpire through two-way radio. To take this kind of advice, the on-field umpire on the bowlers’ side will make a TV screen shape with his/her hand and ask the third umpire to observe. The third umpire will determine whether the batsman is out, whether the delivery ball was correct, or whether the batsman was deliberately blocked on the field. In determining the correct catch, the third umpire will be able to use all the technical support available to him/her. Then the third umpire will be able to announce his/her decision. “

There are grievances of soft signal cancellation in the cricket world and the Indian captain Virat Kohli has been the most vocal against the rule. He was also against the umpire’s call in the LBW decision and the BCCI has decided to fix it. Umpire calls will be used to understand the impact zone (whether in wicket-zone or not) during ball-tracking.

The BCCI has also made a correction on the short run call of umpires. A third umpire has been approved to overturn the on-field umpire’s decision to reduce the batting team’s runs in this manner if the call is wrong. Last year there was a big controversy in the game between Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) and Delhi Capitals, where the umpire’s wrong short-run call in the square leg proved costly for the Punjab team.

The new rules are expected to be seen in the very first match of the prestigious franchise tournament, the IPL 2021.

Smith’s desire for being the Aussie captain again

Former Aussie captain, Steve Smith was banned for a year due to the ball-tampering scandal in Cape Town in 2018. He returned to international cricket with a vengeance, but his captaincy was also banned for two years. Steve Smith wants to return as national team captain after the ban has been lifted recently.

The 31-year-old returned to Test cricket after 18 months and scored two centuries in the first Ashes Test at Edgbaston in 2019, and is currently one of Australia’s important players in the squad. Wicketkeeper-batsman Tim Paine is currently leading the Australian Test team and Aaron Finch is leading the team in the colorful jersey.

As a result of the sandpaper incident, Tim Paine took charge of the Test team. He built up a nice partnership with Coach Justin Langer and retained the Ashes. But now Paine is 36 years old and has lost 2 consecutive Test series at home to India, questions are now being raised about his Test captaincy. However, Paine has not yet commented on whether he will step down after this year’s Ashes.

Australia will play the Ashes at home later this year. Before that, the T20 World Cup is going to be held in India. In an interview with the media on Monday, one of the best batsmen of the time Steve Smith said, “I am ready to take the opportunity to lead Australia again. If Cricket Australia thinks this is the best time to give me the responsibility, then I have no problem. I’m interested.”

Fast bowler Pat Cummins is currently Australia’s vice-captain and has also expressed interest in the captaincy. However, Cricket Australia is still reluctant to hand over the captaincy to the bowlers as per their old tradition. The last time Australia was captained by a fast bowler, Ray Lindwall in a Test in India, was in 1956.

However, Cricket Australia did not give a clear indication of whether they are still thinking about Smith’s captaincy or not. But Australian coach Justin Langer said of Smith’s wishes, “We have two great captains. Ashes and the T20 World Cup are ahead. Australia captain Tim Paine and Captain Aaron Finch are doing very well in Test cricket white-ball cricket respectively. So no matter what the media says, there is no vacancy for the captain.”

Smith recognized that he would always have to live with the black marks of his misdeeds. But he said that has learned a lot from his experience, “I will always live with the memory of Cape Town whether I lead or not. It will always be with me. Time moves forward very fast and I have learned a lot about myself and humanity over the last few years.”

The pacer broke his arm with a short ball from Pat Cummins and dropped out of the series. Shami has recovered and is at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore and is all set to return to the field for taking part in the IPL 2021 & continue his great form shown in the last edition, noting that he scalped 20 wickets at an economy rate of 8.57 in 14 matches last season.

Like Josh Philippe, he has been included in the squad for his first IPL season with a base price of Rs 20 lakh.

Zampa will not be in the opening match of the tournament
Adam Zampa will miss the opening match of the IPL 2021 due to his marriage, RCB Cricket Director Mike Hesson confirmed in a video on the Twitter page of the franchise. The 28-year-old leg-spinner, who played 3 games last season, will not be available for the opening match of the season against defending champions Mumbai Indians.

Who will be Dhoni’s deputy?
Suresh Raina, who has been CSK captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s deputy since the first edition of the IPL in 2008, has not yet been selected as co-captain by the franchise. However, speculation has been rife that Jadeja could be a potential candidate. Raina withdrew his name from the last IPL for personal reasons and left the UAE before the starting of the tournament. However, he has joined the team camp since March 24 for this edition and is currently in a seven-day quarantine.

Jadeja has joined CSK’s camp
Ravindra Jadeja, who has been out of action since the Sydney Test against Australia in January, has returned to the Chennai Super Kings team camp after recovering from a thumb injury. He had to undergo surgery due to the fracture, which forced him to spend the entire England series off the field.

Ajay Ratra has joined Delhi Capitals

More updates are expected to come out soon as the franchises are coming up with their motive to make stronger teams than ever. For more updates, stay tuned on Baji!

Injury setback for Shreyas Iyer to take part in IPL 2021

Shreyas Iyer was praised for playing a great inning in the T20 series against England. But a shoulder injury that he suffered in the first match of the ODI series, knocked him out of the rest of the matches.

Not only that, according to the Indian media, the captain of Delhi Capitals is also uncertain to play in the IPL 2021 which will start on April 9. Parth Jindal, one of the owners of the franchise team has also confirmed the news.

Jindal wrote in his tweet, “We feel very bad for our captain, Shreyas Iyer. Stay strong captain. I believe you will recover from the injury and come back better. India needs you in the T20 World Cup.”

According to the scan report, the left shoulder bone of the batsman who played 22 ODIs and 29 T20I matches for India has been displaced.

A source in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) told the media that Shreyas might have to undergo surgery on his left shoulder. Now he is having great pain. He may have to be out of the field for at least four months.

The BCCI source disclosed that Shreyas might be taken to the operation table. Instead of the first part of the IPL, He is now uncertain about the whole IPL season. And if that happens, he will have to stay out of the field for at least four months to get back into the nets.

This, one of the greatest batsmen of India, is also not sure about laying for England’s county team, Lancashire. Lancashire signed him last Monday. Their one-day tournament will start on July 23.

In the absence of Shreyas, Rishabh Pant, co-captain of Delhi Capitals, could lead the team. However, the team has veterans like Shikhar Dhawan, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Steven Smith as well.

Last season, Delhi Capitals reached the final under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer. They lost to Mumbai Indians in the final. However, Shreyas did a great job with the bat. He was the second-highest run-scorer for Delhi Capitals after Shikhar Dhawan. So it is certain that the Delhi Capitals will miss him very much if he doesn’t play this time.

A big chance for the Tigers as inexperienced T20I squad announced by NZ due to IPL 2021

In international cricket, the Bangladesh cricket team is now touring New Zealand for the ODI and T20I bilateral series. 3 ODIs and 3 T20I matches have been featured in the series. New Zealand have won all 3 matches of the ODI series. The two teams will meet in the first T20I match of the series on March 28 at the Seddon Park Stadium in Hamilton. The 2nd and 3rd T20 matches of the series will be played at McLean Park in Napier on March 30 and at Eden Park on April 1 in Auckland respectively.

Bangladesh and New Zealand have met in a total of 7 T20I matches since 2010. Where New Zealand has won all the 7 matches. Bangladesh was whitewashed by New Zealand in the last T20I series in January 2017. They confronted each other for 3 matches in the series. The Black Caps won all 3 matches.

Bangladesh won the last 2-match T20I series that they played, defeating visiting Zimbabwe (2-0). New Zealand, on the other hand, won their last 5-match T20 series by defeating visiting Australia (3-2).

With the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 set to begin on April 9, the Kiwis have left six key players out of the T20I squad. Regular players including Kane Williamson, Trent Boult, Mitchell Santner, Kyle Jamieson, James Neesham, and Tim Seifert have been rested. However, 2 speed-stars Lockie Ferguson and Adam Milne have returned to the team after recovering from injuries. Finn Allen and Will Young have also been named to the T20I squad for the first time.

Bangladesh could never beat New Zealand in New Zealand. However, this time Bangladesh has a big chance to win the series by defeating the inexperienced New Zealand team on their soil. Although New Zealand is ahead in terms of statistics, the players of the Bangladesh team have become strong with confidence after winning the last T20I series. However, this time the Kiwis are playing on home soil, they will surely try their best to make the series memorable like every other time.

It is notable that New Zealand is ranked 5th and Bangladesh is ranked 8th in the ICC T20I team rankings. So both teams are needed to work hard in this series to build a stronger position in the points table.

T20I Squad:

New Zealand – Tim Southee (c), Todd Astle, Mark Chapman, Devon Conway (wk), Finn Allen, Hamish Bennett, Lockie Ferguson, Adam Milne, Glenn Phillips, Will Young, Martin Guptill, Daryl Mitchell, Ish Sodhi

Bangladesh – Tamim Iqbal (c), Afif Hossain, Al Amin Hossain, Hasan Mahmud, Liton Das, Mahedi Hasan, Mahmudullah, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Mohammad Mithun, Naim Sheikh, Mohammad Saifuddin, Mosaddek Hossain, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mustafizur Rahman, Nasum Ahmed, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Rubel Hossain, Shoriful Islam, Soumya Sarkar, Taskin Ahmed

Jofra Archer’s injury likely to give Mustafizur Rahman a chance for playing in IPL 2021

It is not clear whether Mustafizur Rahman will play in the IPL 2021 or not. It is doubtful because Bangladesh has a Test series against Sri Lanka during the IPL 2021. Mustafiz himself said long before he left for New Zealand that he would play for Bangladesh if gets selected in the squad against Sri Lanka and will not go to the IPL 2021. The left-arm pacer hasn’t yet asked for permission to play in the IPL 2021. That’s why Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is also not uttering a word about his playing in the IPL 2021.

However, if Mustafizur chooses to play in the IPL 2021, the chances of him playing in the match has increased as his teammate in IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals, the English fast bowler Jofra Archer has injured his right elbow  during the five-match T20 series against India earlier this month.

Archer was ruled out of the ODI series against India and it is also rumored that Archer will not be available for some time even at the start of the IPL 2021. After India won the last match of the T20 series 3-2, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said Archer was returning to England to recover from the injury.

The statement of the ECB gave bad news to Rajasthan Royals. “England’s medical team will monitor the Jofra’s injury condition, then work out a medical plan with Jofra and schedule his return to the game.” And with all that, Jofra will not be able to make it in the early part of this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL). ‘

In the IPL 2020, Rajasthan Royals was eliminated from the group stage but Archer was brilliant. With 20 wickets in 14 matches, he was the highest wicket-taker for Rajasthan Royals in the tournament and was the 7th highest wicket-taker in the tournament. Finding an alternative to a fast bowler like him will not be easy for Rajasthan Royals. However, due to Archer’s injury, Mustafiz’s chances of playing are increasing at least on pen and paper.

In the IPL Auction 2021, Rajasthan Royals bought South African pacer-all-rounder Chris Morris along with Bangladesh’s Mustafiz. England’s pace-bowling all-rounder Ben Stokes is there. The team includes Australian fast bowler Andrew Tye, Indian left-arm pacer Jaydev Unadkat. Other than that, Jos Buttler, Liam Livingstone, and David Miller will be playing in the ‘foreign’ quota.

Among the expert pacers, Archer also plays in foreign quotas, Mustafiz was also bought in foreign quota. Buttler in the batsman quota and Morris-Stokes in the all-rounder quota should get a chance. Archer was thought to be the fourth foreigner to play for Rajasthan Royals.

If Mustafiz opts to play in the IPL 2021, then it might be helpful for Bangladesh Cricket Team as IPL 2021 will return to Indian soil, and the ICC T20 World Cup is also scheduled to be held in India this time. He will surely get an idea of the Indian conditions and make a huge impact on his national team’s success in the prestigious tournament. Now, the ball is on Mustafiz’s court to decide his fate.

Claiming as misinterpreted, Shakib makes his stands clear about playing IPL 2021

Shakib Al Hasan has taken leave from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to play IPL 2021 during the Bangladesh-Sri Lanka Test series in Sri Lanka, and BCB has granted leave. Akram Khan, the board’s cricket operations chairman criticized Shakib for taking leave. He raised questions about Shakib’s desire to play Tests. Naturally, a storm of discussion has taken place in the cricket of Bangladesh. However, Shakib was not uttering a word about them for so long. Shakib was not heard to say anything to clear his stands.

Finally, Shakib revealed his position on an online media Facebook live event. While he was asked about the Sri Lanka series and the IPL, Shakib said that it’s just that he doesn’t want to play Tests, he is sure when he wrote to the BCB, everyone who said he did not want to play Tests or would not play Tests did not read the letter. This is a big deal. He emphasized that he did not mention anywhere in his letter that he did not want to play Tests. As he just mentioned, he wants to play in the IPL at this time because of preparation for the World Cup. That’s all he said.

Shakib claimed that his letter had been misinterpreted and said, “Akram Bhai ( Head of cricket management, BCB ) has repeatedly said, ‘I don’t want to play.’ I don’t think he read the letter well. I would like to thank Papon Bhai (BCB President) for making the correct decision. Players should be given this kind of freedom. If the board or the head of the board helps a cricketer in this way, then the confidence of that cricketer increases a lot. Later, the cricketers’ responsibility towards the national team also increases. I would like to thank Papon Bhai from this perspective. ‘

Describing his position, Shakib further said, ‘If the series was on time, this question would not have arisen. The Corona epidemic has turned everything upside down. These Test matches are part of the Test Championship. We have these two matches left in this competition. We are the team that is at the bottom of the points table. It’s not like that we will play the final if we win these two matches. I don’t think there will be any big issue with it. ‘

Another reason for opting for the IPL without playing two Tests is the preparations for the T20 World Cup, said Shakib, adding that there is a T20 World Cup at the end of this year in India which is very important. He said that they have chances to achieve a lot there. There is no such opportunity in these two Test matches. Of course, if the team wins two Tests, then it is a good achievement.

At the same time, the team will get a chance to find the newcomers as Shakib is not there. Shakib said “A lot of experienced cricketers like me have been playing for a long time. It can be an opportunity to see the newcomers. I was out of the Tests for quite some time. I played a Test, got injured when I played. Bangladesh has played the last seven or eight Tests without me. I don’t think there will be a huge loss if I don’t play this time as well. Rather a couple of cricketers could be generated. There may be an opportunity to see newcomers.”

Shakib himself wants to be involved in the cricket administration of Bangladesh if given the opportunity. ‘I want to work in the highest rank of Bangladesh cricket. I think if I can ever go to a position like the president of the BCB, the work that I will do that no one else in Bangladesh can do. Of course, if I am in cricket, I will cherish being the BCB president. I know that I can be the best president in the history of BCB. I believe very well, it is possible for me’, Shakib’s sayings about being an administrator of Bangladesh cricket.

However, the all-rounder, who set foot at 34 yesterday, has joined the practice for the preparation of the IPL 2021. He returned to the country from the United States on March 23 and has been practicing since yesterday. He has practiced at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla Stadium for some time, performing both batting and bowling. The world’s best all-rounder will return to the field for Kolkata Knight Riders in the 14th edition of IPL starting from April 9.

Captain Kohli set to open for RCB in IPL 2021 & wish to partner Rohit in ICC T20 World Cup

Indian captain Virat Kohli and regular opener Rohit Sharma inaugurated the innings in the fifth and final match of the T20I series against England. Their plan worked well. They collected 94 runs together in 9 overs for the team. Based on their runs, India got a big total against England. Their collection stood at 224 for 2 in 20 overs. Kohli and Rohit laid the foundation for the big score. India also won the series by 36 runs.

In the last match, Rohit scored 64 runs off 34 balls hitting 4 fours and 5 sixes. Kohli scored an unbeaten 80 off 52 balls with 7 fours and 2 sixes. The partnership of the duo helped the Men In Blue clinch the five-match series 3-2.

Kohli himself wants to open for any team he will play for and this can be understood by the statement that has been made by him after the team’s series victory against England. The captain has made it clear that he’s going to open for RCB in the upcoming IPL. This might be his plan for a good preparation for the forthcoming ICC T20 World cup as an opener.

Kohli has opened for RCB before in the IPL 2016, and ended up having his best-ever season in the T20 tournament, where he had amassed 973 runs in 16 matches at an average of 81.08 and a strike rate of 152.03, and scored 4 centuries in a single edition of IPL. So, it’s clear that it’s a great call made by the captain of both RCB & team India. It will be quite exciting to see the way he performs and makes an impact on his team.

Besides that, the country’s legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar also hopes to see Kohli-Rohit as the openers for India in the T20 World Cup to be held on Indian soil in October-November.

In an interview with an Indian TV channel, Gavaskar said, “The best batsmen in limited-overs cricket should play the most. Kohli’s decision to start the innings with Rohit is correct. I think we’ve got an opening pair that could be useful in the future. It will be good for India if these two openers come down in the next World Cup.”

The Kohli’s show might get vigorous this time as he is going to get more time on the pitch and balls to be faced. His fans are waiting for this. Only time will say whether he is correct with the decision or not.

Happy Birthday the heart of Bangladesh, Shakib Al Hasan

Quality full all-rounders are tough to be seen in international cricket nowadays. There are four to five all-rounders in total who can be eventually called genuine all-rounders in present days. Shakin Al Hasan is one of them & is the best Bangladeshi cricketer ever arguably. Shakib is celebrating the 34th birthday of him today on march 24, 2021.

The time was August 6, 2006, the world’s best all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan made his ODI debut at the age of 19 against Zimbabwe in Harare, he made his T20I debut in Khulna against Zimbabwe in the same year, and his Test debut against India was made in Chittagong the next year. Starting from Harare, he has dominated both in batting-bowling units in Mirpur, Multan, Lord’s, Old Trafford, Cardiff, Hamilton and 14 years have passed by. That glittering 108-run innings in Multan or picking up a five-wicket haul against England at Old Trafford in June 2010 – these are just the beginning. These matches proved that Shakib Al Hasan was becoming a true all-rounder from the very beginning.

So far, Shakib has scored 3930 runs playing 57 Test matches. He has scored 6436 runs in 209 ODIs and 1567 runs in 76 International T20s.

The number of wickets in Tests is 210, which is the highest for any Bangladeshi. The number of wickets in ODI cricket is 266. The number of wickets in T20 cricket is 92, which is the highest for any Bangladeshi and the fifth-highest by any international player.

This was the first time in the history of Test cricket that a team had been whitewashed by the Tigers. The last Test of the two-match series was so glorious for Shakib, the rest of the team were just playing the role of side characters. He picked up 3 wickets in the first innings, 5 wickets in the second innings. Playing for the target of 215 runs, the team lost 4 wickets scoring 67 runs, Shakib scored 96 runs from 97 balls and took the team out of the ditch, and won the match for the team.

106 & 3/54, Opponent New Zealand, October 2010, Mirpur. All-rounder Shakib also played a vital role for Bangladesh to win the first ODI series against New Zealand. Bangladesh gave New Zealand a target of 242 runs in his great century. After batting, Shakib Al Hasan bowled hard and gave New Zealand a huge push by taking 3 wickets. The Kiwis could not overcome that push. Bangladesh’s historic series win was confirmed.

144 & 7/129 Opponent Pakistan, December 2011, Mirpur. Shakib took himself to a new height with this Test. After scoring 144 runs in the first innings, Shakib also was bright in bowling, taking 6 wickets in the first innings. He picked up 7 wickets in that match.
